We are biometrics, we are Mobbeel

by | Identity Verification

And, of course: You are the key!

pin  On 6 July, we celebrated our 16th anniversary. While 9 out of 10 startups don’t make it past their first three years, Mobbeel has now been thriving for over 16.

  • 16 years developing biometric technologies.
  • 16 years fighting identity fraud.
  • 16 years of innovation

Today, I’m not speaking to you as a CISO, CEO, CTO or Compliance Manager. I’m speaking to your other self: the one who plays football with his son in the evenings after a long day at work; the one who stayed up late last night helping his daughter revise for an exam; the one who wakes up early to squeeze in some exercise before work; or the one who has to dash out of the office to get the shopping done.

You, who know just how tough everyday life can be, will understand better than anyone how hard it has been for a small team, from a small city in Extremadura — where the tech ecosystem is still developing and poorly connected to the country’s main innovation hubs — to make it this far.

And yet, from Cáceres, we compete on a global scale against true giants: companies 10, 20 or even 30 times our size. And we do so because, 16 years after our founding, we are still innovating and developing new solutions to remain at the forefront of technologies that enable people’s identities to be verified in digital environments.

16 years on… we’re still making history.

In July 2009, we managed to recognise people through their iris using the mobile phones of that time — and from that dream, Mobbeel was born.

It’s been a challenging journey, and the first big decision we faced was to stay rooted in our homeland, despite the tempting offers to relocate Mobbeel to other regions.

pin In Extremadura, there’s real talent to build top-tier technology. Maybe it’s the company breakfasts, maybe it’s the migas extremeñas, but each of us is worth ten.

The next barrier we had to overcome was choosing between growing “supercharged and turbo-powered” through external funding or betting on organic growth. We chose the latter. And thanks to that decision —to create tangible solutions that solved real problems our clients were willing to pay for— we managed to survive in the jungle. We never lost our focus on technology.

pin Our salaries were paid by our clients, not by investment funds.

And yet, even with Panoramix the Druid in our ranks, there came a time when the magic potion was no longer enough to face an environment as fast-changing as it was complex — one where word of mouth alone couldn’t sustain us, and where the rules of the game were being written by companies that had raised massive investment rounds, many of them running at a loss just to capture market share. Sounds familiar?

In June 2022, we decided to join the leading cybersecurity company in the country: Minsait Cyber (INDRA). It was both a bold and a natural step, and proof of that is the fact that we’ve kept our DNA intact, as well as our relationships with partners and clients. This backing allows us to stay focused on what we do best — innovating — while also giving us the chance to take on major, large-scale projects.

Today we celebrate what we’ve achieved, but we’re not stopping here. The future awaits us with new challenges, fresh ideas, and the same passion with which we began.

Because if in 2009 we dreamed of changing the world from Cáceres, in 2025 we’re dreaming even bigger: to make it possible for anyone, anytime, anywhere, to access digital services and prove their identity in a simple and secure way.

We don’t know what the future of digital identity will bring, but 16 years on, we’re still writing history — and the best is yet to come.

Be.

Be Mobbeel.

GUIDE

Identify your users through their face

In this analogue-digital duality, one of the processes that remains essential for ensuring security is identity verification through facial recognition. The face, being the mirror of the soul, provides a unique defence against fraud, adding reliability to the identification process.
